What is this "Facebook" thing again?

I've toyed with so-called "social networking" and I'm done with it. Long-time readers know I shut down my Facebook account, I've never been on MySpace, and I've never even visited the site for Twitter. So I pretty much stay away from those. However, social networking does offer a fascinating new way to do what we used to call "people-watching". Except in the new world of social networking, people-watching takes you to a place you could almost never go by just sitting on a bench at the mall watching the crowd go by. In fact, the reality of it comes out as part soap opera, part farce...with a dash of reality show. So I have to admit to a guilty little pleasure I have recently developed...called "Failbook". Here are a few recent examples, for your enjoyment.

And a personal fave, mostly because while I no longer partake of Facebook, I have spent enough time there to appreciate the...well, meta-qualities of the comments displayed here.
