A Real Liberal Conundrum

My girlfriend Heidi pointed out this article from today's NY Times, concerning expanding rights that journalists regularly enjoy, like the ability to protect sources, to bloggers. (Please note, free registration is required to view this article.)

Boy, if you're a standard West Coast tech-loving liberal, how do you handle this? It's a very complex argument. On one side, you've got the "counter-culture" computer maker of the last 20 years, THE favored computer brand of liberal tech-types everywhere, in Apple Computer. But Apple's a corporation, and anything that's bad for a corporation is de facto good in Leftworld. On the other side, you've got First Amendment rights with that whole "freedom of the press" idea. But this is expanding rights for bloggers, who definitely have been a regular thorn in the side of most on the Left and their pet causes for the last few years. Expanding journalistic rights and protections for bloggers could lead to more embarrassing revelations for the Left.

As Bart Simpson would put it, "What do you do? WHAT DO YOU DO?!?!" The liberals who inhabit Silicon Valley and the surrounding area must be tearing their hair out over this one.

Thanks for reading along.
