Down Memory Lane

Let me take you with me on a quick trip down said lane, gentle reader.

The date: sometime in the spring of 1994
The place: Little Axe HS baseball field, Little Axe, OK
The situation: a freshmen baseball game

I love this photo; it's one of my favorites that includes me. That's me behind the plate, a 20-year-old college student at OU, blown away by how much I got paid to do what I'm shown doing (when you're young, your concept of what constitutes "good money" is a lot different). My ex-wife took the picture (she obviously wasn't my ex at the time); she did it as an action shot, an assignment for her photography class that semester. I love that she managed to capture the ball in the upper-right corner as it has just come off the bat. I love that you can see the chain-link fence, enhancing the "you are there" feel of the shot. I love that my butt looks like I'm doing 300 squats a day (because in those days, I was...I worked A LOT of baseball). A truly great photo. There's a lot I could say about my ex-wife, but she did have a wonderful "eye".

It's funny to think that both of those anonymous players are probably about 30 now. It's also funny to think that, at the time this photo was taken, I was in my 4th season of baseball, and so I should be in the midst of my 20th season today. (I sure wouldn't be working freshmen and JV stuff much, if that were the case.) In a way, there's a lot of "what might have been, and what was to be" in this photo. I have so much ahead of me...
