Anger, Sadness, and Joy

A few news stories from the last few days, that evoke the three emotions mentioned in the title. First, anger:

Brother: Starving Boy Kept In Closet For Days For Being 'Bad'

For those of you who saw when I mentioned the original story for this back in early May, my anger has not subsided. I can't help but wonder at how there are those who believe in the validity of our justice system, when the most these people will get is maybe life in prison, and then they'll probably be paroled in 20 years. We waste far too much time on the ridiculous concept of rehabilitation, especially when the crime is this egregious, this horrendous. What do you have to do in this country to get your license to live revoked, and quickly? Or at a minimum, your license to procreate? I say, either execute them or sterilize and tattoo them. The man has already proven he can't keep it in his pants and refuses to accept the consequences of his procreative actions (he had to have his biological son forced on him by Social Services).

Oh, and whoever at Social Services thought it was a good idea to put those kids with these individuals and leave them there should be fired and blacklisted from government work. Such a glaring incompetence and lack of follow-up is inexcusable.

Now, sadness:

Two-Year Old Crash Survivor Calls Out For Daddy

This one just makes me cry. His innocence, his inability to comprehend what has happened to him and how his life has now changed forever...it is situations like this one and the one above that make it very difficult to just let go and let God do His work, according to His plan. He alone knows the purpose of this and where it will lead for this poor boy, and it is up to us to trust that. Perhaps the silver lining here is the referenced "Good Samaritan" who saved this boy from the accident. Her life has changed forever, too...this deed has been recorded for all time, because the Lord never forgets.

Finally, joy:

Helium Balloons Carry Man in Lawn Chair 193 Miles

I'm with this guy...what little kid hasn't been handed a helium balloon, only to wonder if they could somehow take a bunch of these and fly into the air? Flying has always been a secret obsession of mine. I love flying, I love even just going to the airport. I hope to one day get my pilot's license. I'd like to try sky-diving at least once. I'd love to try para-sailing. Maybe that desire for being up high is another motivator for climbing 14ers. Well, whatever it might be, cheers to this gentleman for his excellent achievement.

Thanks for reading along.
