My boys, Connor and Donovan, being 7 and 6 respectively, have that unique world-view only produced during that age. Connor is somewhat reserved, but he occasionally comes up with some real gems. Donovan, on the other hand, is Mr. Literal, and also Mr. Talkative; his comments sometimes leave us in stitches. Heidi and I have taken to calling the goofy statements made by our sons "Donovanisms" and "Connorisms". Hearing them is an interesting exercise in how children discover humor and what is and is not funny; so often they try to be funny and fail miserably, but later they say something they think is serious that turns into a hilarious, never-to-be-forgotten memory. Here are a few examples:
(On a trip to Water World, a local waterpark):
Heidi: It's Naked Day at Water World. (She was joking, of course)
Connor: AWESOME!!!
Heidi demands courtesy, and so every sneeze in our home is answered with "God bless you". Donovan sees a natural progression from sneezes, after one particularly long and loud cough I emitted one morning:
"God cough you!"
After a late night of working on a firewall for a customer, Donovan had this question the next morning:
"What happens if a brick falls out of the firewall you're working on, Chris?"
I'll put more of these on from time to time...keep an eye out for them. Thanks for reading along.
