A New Day

I'm mostly recovered from the most humiliating defeat I've experienced in my 31+ years of life as a OU Sooner fan...

I can't believe they showed so little. They played like they didn't really deserve to be in the national championship game. They played like they'd stumbled in off the street after a night of drinking. They played so badly that the local flag football champion could've beaten them. I really expected that game to be much better. I mean, a close loss I could've handled. I could still hold my head up with pride and say, "well, we gave as good as we got, and it just wasn't enough." The 2003 Sugar Bowl was like that. Jason White was hurt, and the team was still smarting from the Big XII Championship loss, and they STILL almost came back to tie up the score. If they had tied it and gone to overtime, I'm convinced they would've won, because they had LSU back on their heels.

Not this time, though. I don't know who the hell set foot on the Orange Bowl field Tuesday night, but it sure wasn't the REAL Oklahoma Sooners. The Sooners who fought through adversity, who gave everything in every game, who played like real players. There are NO excuses this time. They were healthy. They had a month to prepare. They had one of the best Sooner teams in ages. They had a Heisman-winning quarterback with two good knees and the Heisman runner-up running back (as a freshman, no less).

I will say this, though: I had never been ashamed to be a Sooner...

...Until Tuesday night.

The rest of the country has enough reasons to make fun of Oklahomans...they don't need more reasons.

Well, let's hope Coach Stoops (for whom I still have the utmost respect and admiration, by the way) can get some more talent to replace what he's losing, and come back strong next year. I mean, we've still got Adrian Peterson, some great quarterbacks ready to step in for Jason White, and some real potential in our defense. It's not over, Sooner fans.

Boomer Sooner.
