In This Corner....The Actions of the True Progressive

The battle is well and truly joined. Bush really threw down the gauntlet in yesterday's address. Many are accusing the President of being overly idealistic or too ambitious or just plain idiotic. Frankly, I don't see it. Yes, he said a lot of things that have very far-reaching implications. Some of the things he talks about might never be seen, or certainly not in my lifetime or my children's or grandchildren' s lifetimes. However, yesterday's speech demonstrates two important things: first, why Bush won re-election; and second, why liberal Democrats won't win the next few elections and retake control of Congress and the White House (unless Bush just royally screws everything up).

Bush's made bold claims and visionary, idealistic statements, and they're important because he has demonstrated himself not only as a man of words, but also a man of action. He will act on his claims and statements, to the best of his ability. I don't like Howard Dean very much, but to be honest, he or Wesley Clark (who I DO have a great deal of admiration for) would have been much better candidates to place against Bush last year, primarily because they are ALSO men of action. What the Presidency really needs during these difficult times is leadership that translates directly to action; a leader who can mobilize the country and lead them into battle, be it battle against the evils of tyranny, terrorism, poverty, AIDS, a screwed-up tax code, or any serious issues that need REAL change effected. Love him or hate him, Bush ACTS. And I personally believe that this one factor is what the Left really hates about him.

Consider what has been happening within the Democratic Party since their defeat on November 2nd. There has been much wailing and gnashing of teeth (now that they believe they're in Hell). There have been sessions of incredulity at their recent defeat ("How could we have lost??? Everyone I know hates Bush..."). There has been considerable bitching and moaning about how the country is now going down the toilet. There has been a great deal of hand-wringing concerning how they're going to come back. There have been numerous discussions, elections for party leadership positions, and debates about their future course. But no one, NO ONE in the Democratic Party has taken the reins of the party and begun to work to draw them together with a positive plan to become relevant again. No action or even a whiff of action...nothing but words and more words.

Herein lies the secret to the defeat of the liberal Democrats. You can call yourself "progressive",
but what does the word "progressive" really mean?Does it mean "moving forward", as the dictionary clearly displays as its primary definition? To most normal humans it does, but in the world of the liberal Democrat, it apparently means: "Let's bitch and moan and complain about how bad things are without actually offering a reasonable solution or working to build a consensus to solve the problem." Bill Clinton came out in the mid-90s and presented reasonable (as he saw them) solutions to challenges the country had then. That's why he was popular and that's why he was re-elected. Bush is the same way. He presents reasonable (as he sees them) solutions to challenges the country has now. Those two presidents were true "progressives." Why? Becuase moving forward, which is what a true progressive does, implies action.

What platform did John Kerry run on? The "I'm not George W. Bush" platform. He presented positive ideas or solutions on how to trulyprogress, on how to solve real-life challenges the country faces. The few he did present, he never elaborated on or emphasized. His idea was, "I just need to show how different I am from Bush, and because everyone I know hates him, which to me means everyone hates him, and they'll all vote for me and I'll become President." I mean, seriously, how could you NOT hate George W. Bush? Isn't it obvious that he's a complete moron, and that anyone who supports him is also a moron? Only backwoods hicks and radical Christians and anti-lifers support Bush, and we know what kind of people THEY are. What fools. What idiots. What clods. In fact, their belief that everyone in the country was just like them and hated George W. Bush and would jump at the chance to oust him, was the funniest part of their entire campaign and was really insulting to most average Americans. Well, vox populi vox Dei...'the voice of the people is the voice of God". Those morons and fools and idiots and clods do have their own brains, and don't need or want YOU to think for them.

The American people want action. The American people want solutions. The American people, including the 53% who voted for Bush, want REAL progress. Again, Bush works for his vision of progress, whether you like that vision or not. He acts, whether you like what he does or not. He presents solutions, whether you like what he presents or not. That is why yesterday's inaugural speech was pure Dubya, and why the Democrats will continue to be mired in the bog of their own intellectual elitism.
