Today's Cavalcade of Ridicule

Heidi and I have been working very hard to reinvigorate our Christian faith, which has suffered over the past couple of years with all the challenges we've had. We're reading The Purpose-Driven Life together, and we're praying more, and actively focusing on being positive and putting our trust in God, so that we can build that strong, intimate relationship with Him.

But sometimes, it is SO difficult to let go and let God, to stay positive in the face of what the world is. I would argue, in fact, that the greatest temptation to sin today's world provides is the constant media coverage that forces us to face the magnitude of human stupidity and thoughtlessness.

First, try this story:

School Bans Tag After Parents Complain

What's next, "School Bans Recess When Parents Complain"??? And we wonder why today's children are so fat and socially maladjusted. No wonder there are so many Emos today. Let's let kids be kids, which means a) they get to do fun things and have fun, even if there are mild physical or emotional dangers, and b) they get to learn on their own about the realities of life and solve their own problems, without being coddled by over-protective parents and an educational system that takes a power dump at the mention of a lawsuit.

Then, along came:

CU Student Confronted By Man With Gun

After last week's knife attack on the CU campus in broad daylight on the first day of classes, I don't know what's a bigger joke: CU's security, or the spokesman of the Boulder PD reacting to the victim's self-defense: "we would not advise it". Where were your officers, ma'am? You expect us to not fight back? "Let the police handle it??" Tell you what, Ms. Brooks, next time you get attacked, just let it happen and don't fight back at all. Sounds like all you need to do to try that out is walk around the Boulder campus for 10 minutes, and you'll get an opportunity.

Edwards: Americans Need To Give Up Their SUVs

Hey, John, when you "sacrifice" by giving up your corporate jet and 12,000-square-foot mansion, and ask all other American multimillionaires to do the same, I'll see that you're serious and think about giving up my SUV. (Maybe he should give up hairspray, too...coiffing that hair probably uses enough of the stuff to cut emissions by 5%. Why else would it cost $300 a pop?)

Now try this:

Apple, Volkswagen Discuss Building 'iCar'

Hello, Mr. Jobs? I've got a word for you...iDone. On the other hand, why stop now when there are still so many humans willing to swallow your marketing hype with a loud "BAAAAAAA"?

Finally...I hate to beat the dead Michael Vick horse, but two disappointing stories came out about him:

NAACP: Vick's Not Guilty, Let Him Play

Now, I know you folks thought OJ was innocent, too, and I hate to compare anyone to radical Islamists, but most Muslims are also very reticent to condemn suicide bombers. Think about it; don't you think the attitude that "the world is out to get us and we should never be held accountable for our actions" ENABLING this behavior in your people? Most Christians, on the other hand, openly condemned their own who saw fit to bomb abortion clinics. Who would you like to be more like?

Another question: how many children, particularly among your own people, idolize Michael Vick and everything he does? Do you really want to condone dogfighting, in any way, shape, or form? Particularly with a role-model figure like Vick? Think before you speak next time.

Most Fans Don't Want Vick Back In NFL

I am given hope that a solid majority don't ever want Vick to come back, but I am disheartened by the nearly one quarter of respondents who want him back. All the card-carrying members of the NAACP, apparently. I understand the second-chance idea, but I think some acts don't deserve it unless there is substantial tangible proof of remorse and rehabilitation.

The human race runs on. Thanks for reading along.
