Today's Chuck Norris Fact:
Chuck Norris does not "style" his hair. It lays perfectly in place out of sheer terror.
OK, I lied. In my last post, I said that this post would be another long, serious one. After the busy week I've had I figured I could make this one light-hearted, too. But I do have a serious post coming next, probably this weekend.
Five Best James Bond Theme Songs:
5. The Living Daylights, a-Ha -- The theme song was the best part of this nearly completely forgettable Bond flick.
4. The Spy Who Loved Me, Carly Simon -- Not only does the song kick serious butt, but the intro, with Bond skiing off a cliff and opening a parachute colored like the British flag as the Mancini-written ACTUAL James Bond Theme blares at 100 decibels is one of the best...but we'll cover that in a different part of the list.
3. Goldfinger, Shirley Bassett -- Shirley's sultry 60s voice is world-renowned, and it makes this one great. If anyone else tried to pull it off, they'd probably fail pretty miserably.
2. Live and Let Die, Paul McCartney (with Wings) -- This was a good flick, even if a bit goofy at times. But the theme song was AWESOME!!!
1. A View To A Kill, Duran Duran -- Now, I am pretty partial to Duran Duran anyway, but this song is generally acknowledged by the folks I've talked to, to be the best. And the video was pretty cool, too. (And besides...Roger Moore and GRACE JONES?? Meeeee-OOOOWWWWWW!!!)
Three Most Over-Hyped, Overdone Holidays That Don't Really Deliver Much
3. April Fool's Day -- This one gets a lot of undeserved attention, mostly because there are so many pranksters out there who wait just for this day to crank it up a notch. But really, what's the point? Do we really need another excuse to be mean to each other?
2. Groundhog Day -- Let me see...a day devoted to waiting to see if a rodent sees his shadow. And somehow, this predicts the weather for six weeks. Do I really need to say any more?
1. Halloween -- Easily at the top for overdone but useless holidays. When you're a kid, it means one thing: CANDY. When you're an adult, it means...dressing up in weird costumes? Celebrating the dark side of humanity? I guess I don't get it. Yet we all spend A LOT of money, and it almost seems to be bigger than Thanksgiving now. Halloween lost its appeal for me when I couldn't trick-or-treat any more, and even today, most folks don't let their kids go out and do it. So what's the point again?
Back to the Bond theme...
Three best James Bond Intro Scenes
3. The Spy Who Loved Me -- Bond skis and kills some guys, but gets chased off a cliff. Who do you think you're dealing with? Bond opens a huge British-flag-styled parachute with the James Bond Theme in the background and floats to safety.
2. Octopussy -- Bond flies a minijet and destroys some bad guys flying in fighters. He even flies through a hangar. And at the end, he runs out of fuel, so he just lands the little thing on a highway, rolls up to an isolated gas station and says, "Fill her up."
1. Tomorrow Never Dies -- For an action-packed Bond intro, this one beats them all. Pierce Brosnan pulls it off perfectly, wreaking havoc Bond-style through a terrorist weapons bazaar in the middle of nowhere in southern Russia. And all this while trying to rescue a pair of Soviet fighter-launched nuclear torpedoes from a quickly-closing British cruise missile, before the explosion spreads plutonium across thousands of square miles. And just when you think he's out of trouble, the copilot of the plane he's flying wakes up while they're in mid-takeoff.
My Favorite Bible Passages
Psalm 37:7-9
Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him;
do not fret when men succeed in their ways,
when they carry out their wicked schemes.
Refrain from anger and turn from wrath;
do not fret—it leads only to evil.
For evil men will be cut off,
but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.
James 1:19-20
My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.
John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
I think that says it all, and no better way to end my post of lists. Thanks for reading along.
