April 10th, 2005: 1-2 feet of snow falls in the Denver metro area.
sigh......
In honor of another glorious "spring" day in Colorado, a day that, more than any other day in my life, I needed the weather to be good, I've decided to try to determine why Colorado is called "Colorful Colorado". Here are some of my musings on why this would be the case.
1. "Colorful" represents all the colors of visible light that make up the color white...the color that you see primarily when you get a blizzard halfway through April and get 1-2 feet of snow on the ground. When viewed in that light (if you'll pardon the subtle pun), Colorado is indeed very colorful today.
2. "Colorful" refers to the language you use as you drive to work on a morning like this, because everyone here pays lip service to the danger that this kind of weather presents, yet everyone still expects you to go in to work. Of course, I suppose the expectation of always working exists so that people can pay for their overpriced homes (sitting on overpriced land) and overpriced milk and overpriced gas and overpriced meat and all the other overpriced things here in "Colorful Colorado". And of course, you're driving to work after having spent at least 45 minutes (and usually longer) shoveling heavy, wet snow off your driveway and sidewalks; this because The Law requires that you keep your sidewalks clear on days like this.
I can't begin to describe how difficult it is to keep my language this even and not let my bitterness come pouring from me like Old Faithful erupting. I have extenuating circumstances today that only aggravate what is usually a pretty high level of irritation on days like this. On that note, I'm going to drop off and not say any more, lest I say something I may regret forever.
Thanks for reading along.
