Today's Chuck Norris Fact:
Remember the Soviet Union? They decided to quit after watching a DeltaForce marathon on Satellite TV.

OU's scrimmage on Saturday looked pretty good. The guys are getting back into the swing. The Oklahoman had an interesting article on how OU's coaches are asking AD to be even better than he has been. Now, given what he's already accomplished in his first two years, that's saying something. But the case is well laid-out. If he can accomplish the goals the coaching staff has laid out for him, like becoming a better receiver, blocking better, and being more patient as a runner, he's not only a shoe-in for this year's Heisman, but he could possibly win two in a row. He could become one of the greatest college running backs of all time (and that's no offense to those Troy guys, either...)
OU's QB situation is pretty well sewn up. Rhett Bomar will be The Man, and it looks like Joey Halzle will be a more-than-adequate backup. I'll be honest with you, though...I don't want to ever see Halzle come into a game. That's just me, though.
O-line's rebuilding, with only one returning starter, but they look like they'll be OK. Between redshirts and true freshman talent, Wilson's got his work cut out, but they should be able to do what they have to do.
Man oh man...September 2nd can't get here quickly enough. I hate to say that, since Colorado's best weather is in the summer and I don't want it to go too quickly, but it's sure going to be hard to wait. Oh, and circle November 11th...Texas Tech comes to Owen Field, giving the Sooners a chance to avenge last year's travesty of a "win" by Tech. It was almost as bad as the 1984 OU-Texas game, in which another blind officiating crew stole a game from OU so they could hand it over to some Texas team.
------------------------------------------------
Oh, and speaking of Texas, I predict another blowout for OU this year. Maybe not on the order of 63-14 or 65-13, but perhaps 45-7...that would be fine by me. A returning Vince Young would've made Texas a shoe-in, but since they've lost VY and still have Coach February, I see OU easily winning its 6th of the last 7 meetings. The reigning national champs will be knocked off early.

As I was driving around Boulder on this fine day, I noticed something that has always stuck in my mind. Boulder women just don't seem to care about how they look, generally. Most of the women who live here dress like they're working in the garden for the day; hair just brushed enough to keep it under control...ratty jeans...sweatshirt...no makeup...crummy shoes...some of them smoking like chimneys, others built like and walking like men. I see lots of these women around this town. In fact, you can tell the women who live outside Boulder and commute in for work, because they're the ones who actually dress more professionally and look like they try to arrange themselves before they head out. Even the college girls around here play it pretty fast and loose when it comes to how they put themselves together. I'd guess this mostly stems from the whole feminism idea ("if you can't love me for how I think rather than how I look, you're not worth it"), with a side dish of laziness. Frankly, I find the laziness more forgivable than the feminist arrogance, and even arrogance is appealing when compared to the nastiness of chain-smoking or the die-hard "I will ride my bike forever" ultra-health-nut ethos. These women are typically highly liberal, which means not only do they usually believe in the whole "love me for my mind, or don't love me at all" idea, but also:
1. They are equal to men and can thus lounge around and be equally lax about their appearance.
2. They are equal to men and can thus sacrifice all other considerations for their career/desires/pursuits.
3. They are heavily pro-abortion.
4. They know better than you, if only you'd recognize and accept that fact.
Now, these things being said, they're not necessarily a bad thing. Every American is free to think or feel however they like. If you're follow my argument, though, you'll see that it could actually be bad for them, as a group of Americans.
Consider this argument. These women a) want to ensure they have the right to not have children, b) prefer to put themselves before any possible children, c) don't seem interested in making themselves attractive to men, anyway, and d) act in a way that ensures that they know how much any potential mate would have to put up with if he got with her.
I say these women are going to be extinct soon...they're breeding themselves out of the gene pool. I must say, there's something to be said for the country girls I knew back home.

OK, this is SERIOUSLY cool...what man hasn't wanted one of these? Hide your fire pole that slides you down to your own personal Bat-Cave? Keep your out-of-this-world weapons stashed away like James Bond? Click the link to see how it can be done for real, and in several different ways. Sure, it might take a little rearchitecting of the inside of your home, so you can find a place to actually hide with these things, but I must say, I'm putting one of these in the next house I own. I mean, come on...why not? Only $10,000 installed, and only $1,500 to start with a DIY kit. That's a bargain.

My last week has been an intensely humbling and difficult experience. I want to thank God for bringing me through it, and Heidi for not leaving me. It started last Sunday night, when I watched The Passion of the Christ for the first time ever. By the end, my tear ducts had dried up; I had nothing left to cry. Then, I had to drive through the snow to Cheyenne on Monday to work...that was nerve-wracking. Monday night everything started with the personal family issues I mentioned previously, and that ran until Saturday. That made everything very tense and it made it difficult to keep my eyes on God. By Saturday night, though, things were getting better, and yesterday was a great day. I'm so glad it was, because I don't know how well I could endure another week like last week. I think I would not emerge with much spirit intact. Please, keep those prayers coming.
Thanks for reading along.
